Description
Blue Skies is a well presented South Devon holiday home from home which will enchant the visitor with its lovely views of the estuary and surrounding cottages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. Decorated and furnished in a comfortable, simple style with an open fire, it makes for a great holiday destination at any time of year and it also has a sunny rear patio and terrace, with the added benefit of parking for one car.
The cottages of Noss Mayo and its twin village of Newton Ferrers crowd the edges of this pretty estuary and either village can be accessed at low tide via a linking causeway. The area, though popular as a holiday destination retains a peaceful atmosphere, disturbed only by the bustle of colourful activity on the water, as this is a haven for yachts and those who love messing about in boats. Both villages have excellent inns, serving locally caught seafood and other delicious local fare and there are some literally stunning walks along the nearby South West Coastal Path. If you can drag yourself away from this pretty spot, some of Devon’s famous sandy beaches are within easy striking distance as is the beautiful Dartmoor National Park and the dramatic Celtic county of Cornwall is less than 10 miles away.
Please note: property suitable for a maximum of 4 adults.

Noss Mayo is a pretty riverside village nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the south coast of Devon, between Salcombe and Plymouth. The village faces neighbouring Newton Ferrers across a beautiful tidal creek in the River Yealm estuary, and is bordered by picturesque woodlands.
Noss Mayo enjoys stunning views over the estuary, and offers a peaceful spot from which to watch varied bird and water life as well as activities on the river. The sheltered harbour, with its colourful sailing dinghies, is well protected from storms in the Channel and makes ideal sailing waters for novices and experienced sailors alike.
Wander past charming waterside cottages, to the Swan Inn for a refreshing beer or to The Ship Inn for fine food. At low tide, cross the causeway to Newton Ferrers for a few shops, a café, and the Dolphin Inn with its ample beer garden looking over the creek. High tide offers the excuse to take the ferry (or paddle or sail!) to secure your fresh croissants from the local Post Office and store.
Walkers will enjoy the half hour stroll or more from Noss Mayo through idyllic woodland to Cellars Beach, located on the South West Coast Path, and from there, up to Gara Point. There are several unspoilt beaches within a short drive, which include family-friendly Wembury, dog-friendly Wonwell, and beautiful beach Mothecombe which is a hidden gem and offers excellent bathing at low tide.
Plymouth is conveniently situated, just 10 miles away, and is well worth visiting for a day trip or two. Highlights include the Hoe, with its iconic lighthouse and spectacular views across the world-famous natural harbour, the National Marine Aquarium, and the vibrant Barbican area with its theatre and a fantastic selection of waterside restaurants, pubs, and bars.
A holiday cottage in Noss Mayo offers a very peaceful base from which to explore stunning coastline, pretty villages and the historic city of Plymouth.
In front of garage for one medium sized car. Guests are welcome to use the garage for additional space for parking, or to enable a longer vehicle to be parked outside (Garage not suitable for 4 x 4’s). The space is shared with the neighbouring property so it is appreciated if guests would park their car right up against the wall to enable manoeuvring, and for the neighbouring property to park.
It is a snug parking spot so guests with larger or estate cars and those not accustomed to tight parking may wish to view the google streetview of the parking space to decipher suitability of vehicle.

A pretty waterside pub where children can paddle in the water and yachtsmen tie up their boats outside. Here you can enjoy local beers and fresh homemade food, whilst enjoying the view over the Yealm estuary.

The ship itself is an absolutely wonderful place whether for a great lunch or dinner or just a drink. The Trio of Fish starter is beyond good and the Fresh fish is second to none Absolutely recommended!

Great location, excellent in every way.
May 2022
Fabulous and relaxed restaurant, great service, delicious food, reasonably priced and dog friendly would highly recommend.
May 2022
Lovely garden by the water, slick service from a personable young team, but given this is regarded as more of a gastro-pub, we found the food to be underwhelming. The fish and chips was greasy, the chips underdone and soggy and you really can't charge £16 and serve tartare sauce out of a jar.
May 2022
Stayed in a lovely little cottage last week by the Ship. Cannot fault the food or service. 5 star all the way, Tracy and Keith
April 2022

September 2021
Highlight of our holiday. The Ship does some great food.
September 2021
A great waterside pub with excellent service. However the owners felt a need to take their staff on holiday the week we were there, which is peak holiday time, so it was closed the day after we arrived! A lovely gesture for sure and a sign that this pub has overcome the lockdown dramas in such a short period. Used another village pub instead, which was fantastic.
September 2021
Our favourite place to eat in Noss Mayo. Both the food and the service were brilliant. Highly recommend.

We had a delicious meal here, eating early evening as we had our granddaughter with us. Our table was ready on time and we felt comfortable and welcome. The decor is lovely as is the view. Wish we had more time to revisit. Parking on the beach was fun but it’s easy to check the tides.
June 2021
Generally good - we went four times, but marred when one of the staff had a bit of a strop when we asked to pay on more than one credit card. You're in the service industry, people!!

September 2019
We booked a large group with children for an early evening dinner. We were welcomed and made extremely comfortable in the new 'glass house'. This was a beautiful private room opening onto the terrace where the children could watch the boats and we could all enjoy the view. The service was impeccable and the food first class. The whole experience made for a very special evening. Thank you.

December 2018
Had a lovely Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve 2018 and they even managed to fit us in early evening without an advance reservation so that was very impressive. My husband had venison which he pronounced a bit chewy. On another occasion we both had fish & chips which were a bit greasy unfortunately. Great atmosphere and location.
December 2018
Excellent food and good service. Great local beer.
October 2018
They just get it right, great service, great food perfectly cooked & presented with no pretentious twaddle. Oh & it's consistent, every time we come back the standards are maintained.

We've been going to The Ship Inn for many years now - always great food and friendly, helpful staff. We went five times on this trip!
August 2018
Would recommend this place, superb food and a fantastic venue. You can walk across the river at low tide, much cheaper then the ferry at £3:50 for 100 metres per person, each way!
August 2018
We’ve eaten at the Ship many times over the years, and the food has always been excellent, and the location is just gorgeous (but careful where you park when the tide’s coming in!)

September 2022
Lovely pub - good wholesome food - recommend the burgers particularly the vegetarian one! It’s closed on Mondays though and advisable to book!!
August 2022
Lovely outdoor seating area with an amazing view. Great atmosphere in the build up to the regatta (sadly had to leave before final regatta weekend). Amazing monkfish scampi.
August 2022
We had understood The Swan to be the more modest of the two pubs in Noss Mayo and certainly the outdoor seating area can't compete with The Ship. But when it comes to food...this place knocked spots off the competition. Perfectly cooked fish, crunchy chips, colourful and imaginative salad and delicious home made tartare sauce. Now that's how to do it! Delightful friendly staff too.
May 2022
Lovely pub, food was delicious and they have a fab outside space
November 2021
Had one meal as they were closing for maintenance. Amy is a lovely host and the meal was good.
October 2021
Lovely location in Noss Mayo and friendly staff. The menu was not as expansive as we would have liked but food was satisfactory. The pub's resident dog was lovely and kept us entertained.
October 2021
Have not been in The Swan for many years as it had a number of problems. However, our visit on this occasion was excellent. Food, atmosphere and service were very good and we enjoyed a lovely evening.
October 2021
Great little pub, good food and drinks, very friendly staff and frequented by the locals which is always a good indication.
September 2021
We booked lunch here (essential to book as was very busy in mid Sept) and the staff were friendly and helpful. Dogs were welcome and the menu was great too. A must visit! The views are amazing!
September 2021
Ate there three times during our stay and had a very pleasant experience in a beautiful setting, though they were prone to run out of choices (twice) on a limited menu. The food was good and realistically priced. Will definitely return.
September 2021
Lovely views & great food.
September 2021
Great location. They are still running the pub under Covid restrictions (i.e. not allowing anyone into the bar and taking drinks orders through the window) which made service very slow.
August 2021
A great pub to sit and watch the world go by. Lovely staff and good beer.
July 2021
Friendly local pub that is just as welcoming to visitors. They even bring throws to keep you warm outside.
June 2021
Lovely ocation. Really friendly helpful staff. Amazing terrace in the evening when the sun goes down. Food was pretty good, but the seafood platter was all from frozen! Fish and chips was amazing.
June 2021
This is the place to go if you want to feel part of the community, plus there is the added benefit of its prime location looking down the river. Food is extremely good, and nothing is too much trouble. The chef even came out to discuss my wife's gluten-free requirements to ensure she got what she wanted. It's a first class village pub where you're welcome whether you just want a pint, or a meal!
June 2021
Very pleasant outside area, which was undercover and much needed because of the rain!
May 2021
A great waterside pub, very friendly staff and amazing food. Although due to COVID restrictions we were eating outside, it was still made warm and cosy with great heaters and throws. Really fab.

October 2020
Lovely outlook, food and service good.

Nice space outdoors, 100% need to book a table. They do different food on different nights so walk down, they have it on the board out the front what they serve each night so check and then book for the week what you want

Lovely pub, great food, best place to sit and watch the sun go down. New managers/owners are doing a fab job.
August 2019
The Swan has been refurbished to a high standard, food is more basic than The Ship but nonetheless still great, service is a bit slow during busy periods as it’s become popular. Lovely seating outside the pub and down on Pope’s Quay where the kids can go crabbing as you sip on your drink! Dogs welcome inside which is handy.
August 2019

December 2018
Great local pub, good food and drink, nice outside seating by the creek
October 2018
The Swan Inn is under new management and is a wonderful place to go for a drink and/or food. During our stay we did both. We had a three course meal and all courses were excellent. The staff are friendly, attentive and efficient. My steak came as ordered. The cask ales were well kept. The pub was clean, modern and buzzing with the chatter of our fellow diners / drinkers. First time we have been into this pub and it will not be our last. Would advise to book in advance for Friday or Saturday nights, as it is a popular establishment.
September 2018

We had very poor service on the evening we went to the Ship. they were busy, but we didn't get the food we ordered and waited 30 minutes for our dessert order to be taken only to leave without - as did other people near to us. We did speak to the Manager about this. We also went for lunch which was good.

January 2020
WE VISITED THE PUB ON 4 OCCASIONS - TWICE FOR EVENING MEALS - DURING OUR STAY. THE LANDLADY AND BAR STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND THE FOOD FRESHLY COOKED AND MOST TASTY. LOVELY ATMOSPHERE ON THE FRIDAY EVENING WHEN WE ARRIVED. AMALIA AND MIKE - BEDFORD
October 2019
Updated last year this pub is now a really wonderful place to visit - great menu, good atmosphere and the best place to sit and watch the sun go down! Well done to the team who own/run it they work very hard and it shows!
August 2019
On a walk to find the local Co-op, and other shops, we stumbled across this pub by accident, as we knew of the Ship Inn, which we could see from our accommodation, and the Swan, which was on our side of the estuary, two minutes from our accommodation, but The Dolphin was our favourite. It had a a competitively priced varied menu, with a pleasant seating area which led down to the waters edge. The second “Voss”, (purpose built crossing) was located just here, so at low tide you could walk across the estuary, which actually would bring you out to the outside seating area of the Swan!. All in all a lovely venue in a beautiful location.
August 2019
we stayed @ glen cottage for a week, and found the Dolphin very friendly , will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
June 2019
CLOSED (looks like permanently) during Xmas week 21st to 28th December when we were staying at Mallards.
December 2018
Closed until further notice
October 2018
Had a lovely meal at lunchtime - food was amazing!
August 2018
Lovely food. Super friendlly staff who fed us even though we were quite late in the evening. Dog friendly. No vuew of tbe estuaty from tbe terrace which is a shame because the pub is in an idyllic spot.
July 2018
Great local pub to end the day with a pint ! Either a walk over the voss when the tide is out or a brief walk round Bridgend
June 2018
A brilliant pub, fantastic atmosphere day & night. Live music and a great menu - including a great vegetarian selection. The staff were on the ball and service was quick. The chef was able to adapt the menu to suit 'fussy'children. Highly recommended.
August 2017
Great food and selection of ciders.
July 2017
Great local pub, very warm welcome, dog friendly and a nice pint.

Saltram National Trust
(6 miles)

Lovely peaceful walks with dog taking in the beach estuary. Dogs not allowed in the house or formal garden only the parkland.
September 2023
Lovely house, not easy to get to as Plymouth roads are not well marked and lane selection is vital.
September 2023
Very friendly staff and lovely gardens - a shame we couldn't see the house because of Covid restrictions - but next time!
September 2020
National Marine Aquarium
(6 miles)
(4)
The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is the Nation’s largest aquarium as well as being a charity organisation, and as such has an extremely exciting and prevalent role to play in driving marine conservation. Alongside the tourist attraction they run learning programmes for more than 30,000 children each year, have a consultancy branch and host events from weddings to birthdays and corporate functions as well. While you’re on holiday in South Devon, however, you will be more interested to know that this underwater world of discovery has the largest native exhibition in the UK exploring all the fish you have heard of and rarer varieties as well. In addition to British beauties there’s an Atlantic Ocean tank with large Nurse Sharks, sand tiger sharks and lemon sharks as well as ray and clownfish. The Aquarium has a café on site, is open daily, and has a variety of ticket types available for families, students and senior citizens.

Visited last week, definitely not worth the money, very expensive for a not particularly great attraction.
September 2021
A lovely aquarium but we had to change our original visit day as booking (due to Covid) closes at 2pm daily and no entry allowed after that time without booking.
July 2021
Brilliant, not cheap but worth it only four stars as outside play area a bit scruffy.
September 2019
Very expensive to enter and we walked around the entire place in less than an hour.

Wembury Beach
(2 miles)
(1)
The popular beach at Wembury also offers acres of sand, award-winning clean, safe water for all ages to enjoy and an abundance of rock pools for little ones to explore. Take a stroll along the cliff paths towards Bovisand and Newton Ferrers for unrivalled coastal views, or visit Wembury Marine Centre which runs organised Rockpool Rambles throughout the summer months. There is also a seasonal café, shop, car park and toilets.
Fabulous Fabulous Beach, and great for our dog.
May 2021
Mothecombe Beach
(4 miles)
(3)
One of South Devon’s quieter beaches, Mothecombe is a large and unspoiled, privately owned stretch of sand that’s open every day, all year round. Having won an award from the Marine Conservation Society for its clean sea and sand, you can be assured that relaxing here and pottering about in the water is going to be a happy, healthy and pleasant experience for all in this sheltered corner of Devon. For those wanting to try out water sports, Mothecombe offers the ideal conditions for windsurfing, kayaking, body boarding and generally enjoying the water, particularly for beginners as it’s a comparatively gentle environment in which to give it a go. Given its pristine nature, it will probably come as no surprise that dogs are not allowed on the beach in high season, so keep an eye out for signs for more information, but best to steer clear with furry friends from May to September. There is a car park from which you can access the beach down a narrow path, so it’s not ideal for wheelchair users, but is otherwise conveniently close by. There’s also a tea house in the car park for drinks and snacks and there are toilets nearby as well, so pending the tides you can spend a good day here enjoying the natural scenery and all the fun that it brings with it, whether that’s for the whole family, on a romantic afternoon in the summer sun, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of this less populated park of the coastline.
Lovely little cove, even on a wet day! Car park expensive for short stay - £6 all day and quite a walk to beach, uphill all the way back.
September 2023
A delightful beach with fabulous views famous from "Penmarric". Accessed via a path from parking in the field (£5). Alternatively via a wider road to the estuary beach. Lots of walking at low tide and even across to the far bank of the estuary, Clearly other people's dogs loved it on their last day off leash (end of April). We were delighted to find the Old School House, now a restaurant and ate outdoors. Expensive for what it was but it appeared to cater for Londoners given the vehicles parked outside!
May 2021
Lovely beach but cafe was being renovated and we were gasping for a cuppa
April 2017
Wonwell Beach
(5 miles)
(5)
Lovely beach. so quiet at certain times. always different. great for dogs. parking very limited.
May 2022
Amazing spot, so peaceful. Parking the only issue.
June 2021
Nice beach and great walks that lead to it, very few people around in August! Limited parking so you are better off walking there.
August 2019
Glorious beach at the mouth of the Erme. Narrow lanes and very limited parking. No toilets, cafes etc - wonderful! Turning circle for cars just before the beach but expect to have to reverse back up the access lane to allow cars that are leaving to go back. A nightmare on Bank Holidays - parking almost impossible and expect to have to negotiate very tight spaces.
September 2017
Lovely beach but bit of a trek for little ones
April 2017
Ayrmer Cove
(6 miles)
(20)
Roughly one kilometre (20 minutes depending on your pace) from the National Trust car park at Ringmore, and with a selection of footpaths to get to it, Ayrmer Cove is a quiet secluded beach on the South West Coast Path. For anyone on holiday in South Devon it’s a peaceful place to sit and contemplate the natural scenery amongst the shingle, pebbles and rock pools, admiring the cliffs. It makes for a beautiful destination to walk to from Ringmore itself, which is a small village (population 230) with views towards the cove itself as well as Bigbury Bay – it makes for a wonderful holiday cottage destination in South Devon as well as a place to visit as part of your day. Walking to the beach allows you to discover the surrounding woodland, wildlife and history of the area – taking in old smugglers’ routes and hedgerows that have been in situ since the 1800s. It is a little tricky to get to so it’s not ideal for wheelchairs, and there aren’t any toilets or facilities at the beach itself so if you want to stay for a little while don’t forget to take snacks or a picnic if the weather is right. This is all about enjoying the environment that’s such a proud part of the National Trust – it’s everything a holiday in Devon is about, and yes, dogs are permitted all year round and will very much enjoy the walk!
Fabulously unspoilt and beautiful.
June 2023
Childhood memories and very clean
May 2022
Lovely location for photography and any easy walk from the National Trust car park

Perfect swim spot
May 2021
What a wonderful, quiet little haven!
September 2019
A beautiful little cove and fun for dogs and children.
August 2019
You can walk to this secluded cove from the cottage. Probably about 20 mins away, depending on your pace. Plenty of blackberries to eat/collect on route when in season! No facilities at the cove but beautifully unspoilt.
August 2019
Really beautiful secluded beach - great for the dog too!
July 2019
A lovely beach at the end of a beautiful valley. Absolutely perfect for dogs and never busy.
June 2019
Parked in the NT car park at Ringmore and took the 15 min walk down to the beach. Saw a beautiful sunset and had the place to ourselves. Bliss
November 2018
What a fantastic place. So quiet - we had the whole beach to ourselves a lot of the time. Our dogs loved it.
September 2018
A lovely quiet cove, with excellent rock pools at low tide. No sand but the kids enjoy it as an alternative to the massive sandy beaches at Bigbury and Bantham.
September 2018
stunning little beach, very quiet and great for snorkelling
July 2018
Beautiful cove. Very quiet with lots of bird life.
June 2018
Well worth the walk with beautiful views of Burgh island from the coast path. We were the only ones there on a very sunny day in April. Perfect.
April 2018
Simply stunning and well worth the steep (ish) walk down from the National Trust car park at Ringmore. When there - it's hard to imagine the horrors of today's modern world.
September 2017
Gorgeous beach for an evening swim and barbecue. So peaceful and beautiful

Lovely beach but no dog's allowed
September 2023
Lovely beach and walk over cliffs to Thurlestone. Beautiful views.
July 2023
One of the most beautiful and relaxing places on earth.
June 2023
Worth the £4.50 to park for the afternoon plenty of walking and rock pools to explore, a good wide sandy beach for people with children
April 2022
Great beach particularly at low tide
October 2021
The most extaordinary place and great for kids. Lots to see and do - great sand and very shallow waters so very safe. if you get a chance to go on the water tractor that is great.. and do visit the Pub on the island. Great day out.
August 2021
A lovely beach. £6.50 to park for the day - it's a private estate - but a shame that the owners aren't prepared to put some of the money towards improvements to the toilets - one small sink in each of the men's & women's toilets with a malfunctioning tap is not enough for a beach full of people, children & dogs!
August 2019
Lovely beach for gentle surfing with ice creams, coffee, snacks and pizzas close to the car park.
July 2019
Glorious especially at low tide.
April 2019
Best beach in the South Hams.
July 2018
Can get busy with surfers, but a beautiful place with a wide sandy beach. Lots of room for everyone.
April 2018
Beautiful beach. Nightmare of a road (especially in high season) to get to it. Worth it though when you get there.
July 2017
A short walk (less than a mile) from Thurlestone, this is a stunning beach. Lots of shallow water with sand underfoot, truly amazing.
July 2017
Fantastic sandy beach and so big. My dog loved running around and jumping into the water. Plenty of space for all.
April 2017
September 2023

A wonderful cottage with stunning river views from the house and garden.
May 2022
This is a very nice property in a lovely location.
November 2021
We had a very enjoyable stay in lovely surroundings, cant really complain about any thing other than a lumpy mattress
September 2021
Lovely location, quieter than we anticipated, we had an excellent break. Equipment provided - would have liked to have oven gloves, more smaller microwaveable bowls, and spare batteries for the clock.
Thank you for your feedback. We will pass on your comments to the Property Support team. We are pleased you had a lovely stay.

September 2021
We had a lovely stay in Noss and really enjoyed the house and garden in the late summer sun. Other than the points mentioned above everything was perfect - thank you!
August 2021
Lovely views. We would definitely return to this lovely spot. Note others points on parking, and I probably wouldn’t bring toddlers here with the many, many stairs. Hope that’s helpful to someone.
August 2021
We had an absolutely lovely time. Just those beds really - the mattresses on the two twin beds have pretty much had it and the mattress on the very low bed in the other small room wasn’t comfortable at all.
July 2021
Hope to be back next year
June 2021
The setting in Noss Mayo was very pretty. Papers and groceries were easily available by walking across the Voss when tide was out. We did enjoy our stay where we were able to eat in local pubs and go on local walks. However access to village down all those single track roads was difficult. Parking was difficult My estate car was too big for parking sideways on driveway and too big for the garage. I had to park part in the garage and and part in the driveway. Lucky we only had one car.
September 2020
Stunning location with lovely terraces. Kitchen needs fridge with freezer section for ice. Very inconvenient to go down to a locked garage just to get ice cubes.
November 2019
Great house and place to stay, ( been meaning to complete review for ages )
October 2019
we enjoyed our stay and the accommodation it was just a few little things could do with renewing
August 2019
Lovely property in a perfect position with a gorgeous terraced garden overlooking Noss Mayo. Thank you for a fantastic holiday!
August 2019
We had a great time. Thank you
June 2019
This is the second time that we have stayed in Blues Skies and the garden terracing at the rear is new and is wonderful, what a space to enjoy the views of the village and the creek, we loved it. It has made a huge difference to the property, catching the sun all day, heavenly.
April 2019
We did enjoy our stay. Noss Mayo is a pretty village but the road down the hill to it is challenging.
September 2018

October 2017
Really enjoyed our long -weekend (again) and we are grateful to Toad Hall Cottages, the owners and caretaker for making such a delightful holiday possible. It's a very special place to us. Thank you.
October 2016
Thank you very much for another wonderful mini-break in Noss Mayo. We really look forward to our next visit!
July 2016
The only suggestion I could make on Blue Skies is that the fridge had no freezer compartment, so no ice for drinks nor ice creams which although not essential, would have been nice.
June 2015
Although we were very pleased with our cottage and location unfortunately my son and husband were very poorly soon after we arrived and for a couple of days. Wi-Fi is available at Blue Skies but there is no mobile reception locally (we appreciate that is well beyond the powers of THC to sort) but as there is no telephone at the property I was worried that if doctor/ambulance needed to be called how/where to go, particularly in the middle of the night. Fortunately the need didn't arise on this occasion.
April 2015
Fabulous position. Only down side was parking for second car tricky. Would certainly come again.
October 2014
We were very impressed with Toad Hall, always very helpful on the telephone. Property was lovely, didnt want to leave!! Have booked with Toad hall already for next year!! Thank You.
July 2014
Although a 6 bed property there were only 2 of us as we like lots of space Wine and Devon cream tea awaited us on arrival. Flowers on the lounge table as well. We will return again as this was our second time at Blue Skies and third at Noss Mayo. Overall an excellent property with the addition of a garage to park our car in and lounging chairs on the sun deck at the rear.
May 2014
We were concerned about noise since the property is behind the pub but it was quiet partly the clientele but mainly because the outside table are in front of the pub and the parking is about 50m down the road[a cul de sac] so no car doors slamming etc. the property is built as they all are up the side a steep river valley which means there are a lot of stairs so we left fitter than we arrived even allowing for walking the coastal path as well Otherwise the property is as described and has a nice welcome pack [wine, clotted cream, scones and strawberry jam] and well equipped throughout The main reason i have bothered with the review was to reassure anyone concerned as i was about pub noise.

The Ship Inn - Noss Mayo
(Less than a mile)

A pretty waterside pub where children can paddle in the water and yachtsmen tie up their boats outside. Here you can enjoy local beers and fresh homemade food, whilst enjoying the view over the Yealm estuary.

The ship itself is an absolutely wonderful place whether for a great lunch or dinner or just a drink. The Trio of Fish starter is beyond good and the Fresh fish is second to none Absolutely recommended!

June 2022
April 2022
Love this pub/restaurant and always go there several times when we are on holiday in the area. Charlie and Lisa and all the team are extremely friendly and the service is second to none.

October 2021
Have eaten in The Ship on so many occasions and have always had a very enjoyable evening. Good service, lovely atmosphere and good food
October 2021
Very nice gastro pub food. The Swan Inn on the opposite shore is also worth a visit for a traditional pub atmosphere.
September 2021
Lovely food
September 2021

August 2021
Fabulous meal for a large number . Perfect in the glass house . Attentive staff very welcoming Thanks !
August 2021
We had a delicious meal here, eating early evening as we had our granddaughter with us. Our table was ready on time and we felt comfortable and welcome. The decor is lovely as is the view. Wish we had more time to revisit. Parking on the beach was fun but it’s easy to check the tides.
June 2021
Generally good - we went four times, but marred when one of the staff had a bit of a strop when we asked to pay on more than one credit card. You're in the service industry, people!!
June 2021
Although not taking bookings when we visited in late April, the staff managed to find us a table at lunchtime. The staff, service, food and beer were all excellent.
May 2021
Visited several times during our break in Noss Mayo. Lovely pace to sit watching the boats bobbing around. The food on each occasion was excellent with great staff, both efficient and friendly and very COVID safe.

October 2019
An all round delight - such a wonderful find in such a wonderful setting. Exquisite waterfront location; low key but stylish interiors, welcoming ambience; friendly, efficient staff and great food. A must visit!
Thank you.
September 2019
A great place to eat, very friendly and accommodating.
August 2019
Amazing food, location and service as ever. Always a favourite!
August 2019
A simply fantastic pub, great food and brilliant and friendly staff. We ate there three times in the week we stayed and they could not have done more for us. We also tried to see how we could install a zip wire from our balcony to the bar!!!! We will certainly be back!!
July 2019
Fantastic location. Food good. Pleasant waiting staff. Advisable to book in advance. Check times of high water if parking right outside. We saw one car almost float away.
June 2019
Congratulations to the owners family and staff for providing a wonderful dining experience every evening of our week at a nearby cottage (Toll House) its very rare to have good food, service and a very friendly atmosphere. Well done everyone. Terry & Wendy DODD.

April 2019
Always have a great meal here and staff very friendly and helpful.
September 2018
We've been going to The Ship Inn for many years now - always great food and friendly, helpful staff. We went five times on this trip!
August 2018
Would recommend this place, superb food and a fantastic venue. You can walk across the river at low tide, much cheaper then the ferry at £3:50 for 100 metres per person, each way!
August 2018
We’ve eaten at the Ship many times over the years, and the food has always been excellent, and the location is just gorgeous (but careful where you park when the tide’s coming in!)
August 2018
Super Sunday lumch...walkable from The Swan in Niss Mayo and also The Dolphin in Bewton Ferrars at low tide. Amaxing rosdt di ners ans fabous burger and chips and fush and chips tremendous. Lovelt staff. Dog friendly.

September 2017
We ate here three times in the week we stayed in Noss Mayo. The food was delicious and the portions very generous on each visit. The views from the upstairs dining area are to die for. However, most importantly, we found all the staff charming and efficient despite often being very busy. We look forward to a return visit soon.
September 2017
Very friendly, good food, good service
September 2017

Great Pub/Restaurant, we went there four times to eat in our stay. The food was excellent and they had a good selection of beers and wines. All the staff were welcoming and friendly and make the visits a pleasure. Will definitely return next year.
August 2017
We went to the Ship, 3 times during our 1 week stay in Noss Mayo. What a fabulous place to eat. A great menu, something for everyone and a wonderful atmosphere. They've got the balance right between a good welcoming pub and a great restaurant. Superb

The Swan Inn

A waterside pub with lots of outside seating and a friendly atmosphere serving good food and local beers and ales. A good spot for a sunset drink overlooking the estuary.
The Swan Inn Noss Mayo, Plymouth PL8 1EE (T: 01752 872392)
Great pub with lovely view. 11 of us had a wonderful meal on a Saturday evening good atmosphere
May 2024
Fantastic food, friendly staff, thoroughly recommend
April 2024
A pleasant hour or so whilst the grandparents did a spot of babysitting. We were made very welcome and watched the Halloween Quiz taking place with a range of age groups. Good place to go. Nice to see that coffee is available during daytime hours.
November 2023
Lovely Pub with amazing views and atmosphere . Great selection of drinks. Highly recommended
September 2023
This was our first visit to the Swan, greeted and served by attentive and personable staff. The food was very good and provided better value than The Ship. We will certainly be returning on future stays in Noss Mayo.
May 2023
Fabulous pub, only 5 minutes from our holiday house. Perfect for a drink and food. Lovely views and friendly staff
Really fab.
May 2021
The Swan was brilliant , great food and Amy was a great hostess. We would definitely go back and eat there.
May 2021
Whilst staying in Newton Ferrers we ate out at all three local pubs - all were really good but the Swan definitely won the prize for its imaginative menu and delicious food!
October 2020
Lovely outlook, food and service good.
August 2020
Nice space outdoors, 100% need to book a table. They do different food on different nights so walk down, they have it on the board out the front what they serve each night so check and then book for the week what you want

September 2019
We only stopped here for a coffee, but the landlady and staff were very welcoming and friendly. There were interesting photos and art on the walls and a lovely outside seating area with great views.
September 2019
A fabulous, really friendly local pub. Everyone was welcoming and to be able to sit out and watch ‘the world go by’ on the water was a delight. We’ll call in again next time we pass through.
August 2019
Lovely pub, great food, best place to sit and watch the sun go down. New managers/owners are doing a fab job.
August 2019
The Swan has been refurbished to a high standard, food is more basic than The Ship but nonetheless still great, service is a bit slow during busy periods as it’s become popular. Lovely seating outside the pub and down on Pope’s Quay where the kids can go crabbing as you sip on your drink! Dogs welcome inside which is handy.
August 2019
Really liked this pub very local feel good beer and good food . Nice family run pub with good service and a excellent view from the outside decking.

April 2019
Popped in here for a lunchtime drink on Christmas Eve. Busy but very welcoming. We didn't eat but the menu looked good and if it hadn't been so busy due to Christmas we would have eaten there.
Excellent pub food

July 2018
We had very poor service on the evening we went to the Ship. they were busy, but we didn't get the food we ordered and waited 30 minutes for our dessert order to be taken only to leave without - as did other people near to us. We did speak to the Manager about this. We also went for lunch which was good.

June 2019

May 2022
Amazing spot, so peaceful.

Ayrmer Cove
(6 miles)

Glorious especially at low tide.
April 2019
